What can be your career option after the Xth exam?

Before the 10th results are out, standing at the crossroads, it’s never easy to decide anything about your career. Moreover that, some stream which would decide the course flow of your career. It’s a daunting job, but you still need to figure out whether you want to take the path less traveled or more followed?

Either way, if you are fixated to take up the science stream, you should also know about the plethora of career opportunities it offers you. The principal subjects that are offered in the Science stream are Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, and two languages. A student must take at least six subjects with a compulsory language including English.

What are the options then?

  • Engineering as a career

Students who opt for Engineering, have to qualify entrance examinations conducted by recognized bodies like JEE Main, JEE Advanced. Engineering has a vast arena of career option. Among multiple colleges, Indian Institute of Technologies (IITs) are the most favored ones among the prospective students. Apart from the IIT’s, there are 20 National Institute of Technologies (NITs), a couple of IIITs and several private institutes in India which offers a good career in engineering.

There are innumerable options as per the branches, and one can choose from numerous options. The fields can be Aeronautical Engineering, Automobile Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Biotechnology, Ceramic Technology, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Genetic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Plastic Technology, Polymer Engineering, Textile Industry, etc.

  1. B.Sc / M.Sc

Students who are interested in research can also pursue a Bachelor of Science degree (B.Sc.) with any science subject as the major. There are numerous colleges which offer specialization in subjects like Chemistry, Mathematics, Zoology, Botany, Geology, Physics, etc. Moreover, one can further opt for a Master’s degree (M.Sc.)  in their selected subjects after graduation. And if students are more eager to take up research, then they can take up Ph.D.

There are institutes like IISER, NISER, University of Hyderabad, etc. which offer Integrated courses on essential subjects like Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Earth- science, and Biology. These courses can be a 5-year or 4-year courses as per the institute you chose.

There are immense opportunities for completing both graduation and post-graduation. There are companies like TCS, Infosys, etc. who hire freshers after graduation from various positions. Even after post-graduation, one can work as Professors (college/University), Scientist, Geologist, Chemists, Mathematician, physicists, etc.

And right now, there’s a rise in the people taking up courses of Biotechnology, Bioinformatics, Systems Biology, etc.as they are the booming subjects as per the research world.

  1. Design as a career

There’s also a lucrative career which one can pursue. Designing is gaining massive popularity among the students.

NIFT- National Institute of fashion technology

NID – National Institute of Design

SID – Symbiosis center of Design

The prospects of working as a designer are high, and you can work in clothing labels or open up your label. It’s just not clothes, but you can even work as a textile designer, jewelry designer, graphic designer, etc.

  1. Medical as a career

There are also tremendous opportunities available for students who opt for Medical Sciences like MBBS, BDS, BVS, B. Pharm.

M.B.B.S (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery) offers courses on Human anatomy. The course duration is 5 ½ years which includes one year of internship. Also, Students can opt for Post Graduate specialization in subjects such as Cardiology, Anesthesiology, Surgery, Dermatology, ENT, Gynecology, Neuro Sciences, Ophthalmology, Orthopedics, and Paediatrics.

B.D.S (bachelor’s in dental sciences) offers courses in Dental Surgery and the duration of the course is five years with an Internship. After completion of B.D.S, one can also do a Post-Graduation (P.G) in Dental Sciences.

B.V.S (bachelor’s in veterinary sciences) encompasses courses of the Animal disease, prevention, and surgery cases. This course takes 4 1/2 years’ time with a practical Internship.

Bachelor of Pharmacy (B. Pharm) is also an attractive career. After completion of the course, one can start an alluring career in departments such as Drugs Research or Production in various Pharmaceutical Industries.

There are also plenty of scholarships which are available to help you in your further education. For example, one can avail for the UDAAN Scholarship that is conducted by CBSE which help single girl students with their Engineering education. To move abroad, you have to pass the Scholastic Aptitude Test, IELTS, and TOEFL.

There are various Indian entrance exams like NTSE, NLSTSE, National Interactive Math Olympiad, National Cyber Olympiad, National Science Olympiad, Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY), etc.
